How to remember the 99 times table
- Split 99 into 90 and 9: 99 × 9 = 90 × 9 + 9 × 9 = 810 + 81 = 891.
- 99 is 100 − 1, so multiply by 100 and take one lot away: 99 × 8 = 100 × 8 − 8 = 800 − 8 = 792.
- 99 is 9 × 11, so multiply by 11 first, then by 9: 99 × 12 = 9 × 132 = 1,188.
Patterns in the 99 times table
- Each answer is 99 more than the one before: 99, 198, 297, 396, 495 and so on.
- The last digits run 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0, using every digit once before repeating.
- Answers take turns being odd and even: odd × odd is odd, odd × even is even.
- Keep adding the digits of any answer and you always reach 9.
